If you love great films and LA, this is the perfect movie series for you! Once a month we’ll be showing a movie at The Echoplex that takes place in-and-around the City of Angels. Sisters Sonja Rasula (the founder of UNIQUE) and Hilda Rasula (a film editor who most recently worked on The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo) have teamed-up to curate an amazing, and quite diverse, selection of films. This will no doubt become one of your favorite things to do… And because we believe that popcorn and movies go hand-in-hand, we’ll have free popcorn at each show!

APRIL 23: Friends with Money (2006) Buy tickets now!
Much lesser known, this is one of our all-time favorite movies – which is a hefty statement, so you know it’s great! You know when Hollywood tries to make a “dramedy”, but it’s neither dramatic nor funny? This is the movie they wish they made. This brilliant comedy of manners directed by Nicole Holofcener looks at the friendships of four women in LA through a prism of class, mortality, neurosis, and love. Filmed all over Los Angeles in familiar, everyday settings, like the Hollywood Farmer’s Market, Fred 62, or just driving around in cars while talking (sooo LA), this really is a GEM of a film. Frances McDormand’s breakdown in the Old Navy scene ALONE deserves an Oscar! And if you love Modern Family, you’ll notice a familiar face in a great role…
MAY 21: Kiss Me Deadly (1955) Buy tickets now!
One night on a winding canyon road above Los Angeles, private dick Mike Hammer is drawn into a web of intrigue after picking up a female hitchhiker wearing nothing but a trenchcoat. This film noir masterpiece is every bit as brutal and pulpy as you’d hope, with hilarious one-liners, scenes at Angel’s Flight and the old Bunker Hill, and a visionary plot revolving around “the great whatsit”, a pre-Pulp Fiction glowing briefcase, that must be seen to be believed!
